RMB Amount in Words

Write an amount in formal Chinese

  • ·Whole amounts end with 整; amounts with jiao or fen do not
  • ·Under one yuan the integer part is written 零元
  • ·A zero jiao before a non-zero fen is written 零
  • ·Digits group in fours with 万 / 亿 / 万亿, and gaps get a 零

Formal Chinese numerals are used on financial documents because they are hard to alter. This follows the PBOC rules on filling out negotiable instruments, including where zeros and the trailing 整 go.
